What is the role of a Chief Growth Officer?

The title of Chief Growth Officer (CGO) is relatively new in the business world over the last few years. In straightforward terms, a CGO oversees future company growth.

Historically, the position of a CGO typically overlaps those of a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), and VP of Sales. Chief Growth Officers are the key to harnessing strategic initiatives in understanding and responding to market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive activities, all while adapting business models, with the extensive use of data.

I have been fortunate to hold this title for private equity groups who were seeking to increase market share and shareholder value, where I was directly accountable for driving expansion and increasing profits.

The Chief Growth Officer (CGO), is a role that typically oversees multiple departments, ensuring alignment and fostering collaborative growth strategies. A CGO takes a holistic approach to growth across all departments.
